wirelss for knoppix

so i am trying to hook knoppix to my wireless. Unfortunately i am a windows man (dont be mad at me) and Im having a little trouble figuring out and finding out how to do it. I have a thinkpad t41 and i have a dw6000 that does the dhcp to a linksys wap. So i have the assigned ip for my thinkpad as 192.168.0.4 and i go into the wireless config and i tell it the settings ip, ssid and all. and i do lspci and it says it sees my integrated astheros (sp?) card. But i cant get it to hook up to the network. Im a firm beliver in RTFM but i surely cant find any good docs on how to for the wireless. help please, im tyring to get away from the big bad MS...
