I find that going out and drinking lots of Alcohol is a good way of keeping away from the PC :)

I find that going out and drinking lots of Alcohol is a good way of keeping away from the PC :)Really? I just find that a whole lot of alcohol makes the compiling of a kernel be quite a fun event.
And with some pot, it's even more fun!

Personally, I dun think 'we' need medication. A computer hobby will go just as far as you allow it to go. I can spend days and nights with my computer, just programming, compiling new progs, and googling just about everything I can think of.

@TS: I think you're just overreacting a bit. http://images.scholieren.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif
Because you wonder whether you're not paying the outer world enough attention, you haven't forgotten all about it. Consider it as a fase, or go to a psychologist.

I had a friend who got a divorce because she was addicted to her computer - especially the chat rooms. So be careful, this addiction could be serious. Try to spend more time away from the computer and get a life.

I think it's ok to enjoy the computer or anything else, just as long as it's done in moderation. A good balance equals good life.... ;)

Here's a tip, Degs, buy yourself a small fridge, place it next to the mobo, and fill it with cans, sure saves the hassle of waiting at bars to be served, just keep the superglue well away. :p

Where's the atmosphere? Where's the variety?
I've got a pretty good fridge downstairs stocked with Lager and the walk does me good :D

geeky gals...
Try to spend more time away from the computer and get a life. My brother works at a helpdesk, and I'll prolly be doing a ITC/IT/software developing study type of thing. That means... We'll be spending our (day)time behind computers, and... well, offcourse there is gaming and LAN parties.

I think, it really is the environment you're in that defines the computer addiction/affection the most. When I'm on vacation, hiking and mountain climbing, yes; it would seem wierd if I'd pack up my laptop and climb the mountain while compiling my kernel. Tho, it's really not that wierd on a IT-campus.

Its Good to be focused... to know what you want. Now with that said... you can get to much of a good thing, I love puters... spend days and nights in front of them. But my wife often spends those same days and nights staring at the back of my head.

Remember some of the things you enjoyed before computers, and schedule some time in for them again in your life. Freinds and Family are very important... but its not neccasary that they are the focus of your life.

I am sure the folks here are halfway kidding when they tout alcohol as any form of a solution or treatment. It is fun and giggles of course... but never a solution
