Samba issue need a fix {RESOLVED}
Hey all,
I recently reformatted over my rh 7.3 and installed 8.0. On the previous version i had samba setup fine and all was good then after formatting and putting on 8 i cant seem to get samba to work. The linux pc is called "linuxserver" and the windows pc im using is called "daniel" when i go to the widnows pc and run \\linuxserver i get a message "linux server is not accessibile....The account is not accessible to log in from this station." its samba version 2.25 basically im fairly new to linux so this is what i've done so far installed rh, started smb service, edited smb.conf, added user with smbpasswd (or whatever it is). This is all i remember doing with rh7 so i cant seem to figure out why it isnt working. I can verify that the linuxpc otherwise will respond to other network requests..eg. i can use webmin to access settings and stuff from other pcs heres my smb.conf ##======================= Global Settings =====================================[global] netbios name = linuxserver server string = Linuxserver socket options = TCP_NODELAY default = homes workgroup = WORKGROUP os level = 20 hosts allow = ALL security = user[homes] comment = Home Directories browseable = yes writable = yes valid users = %S create mode = 0664 directory mode = 0775------------------------------------------------------------------------ and the smb log after trying to access the linux pc from the windows xp machine ... Looks like to me for some reason your windows box isn't identing.....
[2004/06/19 23:13:20, 0] lib/util_sock.c:get_socket_addr(1012) getpeername failed. Make sure that windows is in fact sharing and no firewalls are in place that would prevent this.

can you please recompile with make distclean; ./configure.developer; make,
it will enable debug options that will give full information in the stack trace [which is important, to help track this down].

Hi, yeah, well I have similar issues and I have the same error in my Samba log file, I am however narrowing the problem down. I was able to do this;
root@yermachine# smbpasswd -a nobody New SMB password: <hit enter> Retype new SMB password:<hit enter again> This made nobody a login name with no password. I can log into my machines with that....its a start. So now, I have to figure out why all of my usernames with home directories on my Linux machines won't allow me to log in. I'm thinking it could be a password issue. I have recompiled Samba with no help. Al |
