Playing CD's in Fefora Core 2

I can get the OS to recognize, mount and play the cd's, but I can't hear anything. I have to turn up the speakers all of the way and I can faintly hear the cd if I put my ear up to one of the speakers. Should I switch drivers? My friend said he had the same problem with other distro's, but worked fine when he switched to fedora. Any suggestions?

I do not think that there is a program installed the will play
mp3 etc.
I am having issues downloading some rpms and getting yum to install. Will let you know how I get along after going along to my local LUG. Monday evening ..
