I just have a question about a very minor niggle with Internet Explorer 6. When I add websites to my favourites some of them have little picture icons next to their names to help identify them. On my computer these usually disappear after 1 or 2 re-boots. Is this normal? Is there any way to keep these icons? Like I said it's only a minor niggle but I'd interested to know.
Thanks for any ideas. |

Welcome
![]() It's called a favicon and is stored in the Temporary Internet Files. Unfortunately, it does disappear over a period of time. You can save the icon to a different place and then direct the shortcut to use that icon. Right-Click on the Favourite, select Properties, then Change Icon.

There's a program called "Favorg" that'll go through your IE bookmarks, query each site, and save them if a site had them. It used to be free but I think PC Mag wants you to pay for it now. Might do some digging around.
What was so neat about it to me was that if you had to reinstall the OS, and if you saved the complete Windows>Favorites folder, and the Program Files>Favorg>Data folder, (where the icons are stored), you could make a folder called FavOrg (case sensitive) in the Program Files and dump the folder marked "Data" from a floppy or CD and all the icons would work as if the program was installed. Icons and bookmarks are such tiny files, it would be easy to back it all up on a floppy, but in my experience bookmarks seem to take forever to write to a floppy.
