help. wont shutdown.

i recently upgraded to windows millenium from 98fe and this past week, the pc would not shutdown. the light is on at the floppy and the harddrive and thats it when i try to shutdown.

my pc is a sony vaio pcv-e314ds pentium 2 256mb ram added a 60 gig hard disk

remove the floppy disk if there is one.
