Outlook Express ate my email

Outlook Express (6) has deleted all my existing emails and address book. When I open it now it shows 1 or more unread messages in the Inbox but when I open the inbox these disappear. I have an up to date virus checker and I've tried reinstalling IE Explorer.

MS suggested trying a new identity this worked for a day but then the problem reappeared.

Any ideas?

This is what happens when you don't feed your outlook express correctly. It needs to have a daily dose of spam. JUST KIDDING.
It sounds more like a virus or spyware issue than an outlook express issue. I tried to duplicate it and was unable too and I searched my microsoft knowledge book and there was nothing like this noted. Maybe it has happened to someone else??

In the mean time, you may want to try an online spyware checker and an independent virus scan are two good ones http://www.pandasoftware.com/actives..._principal.htm (virus scan)
http://www.download.com/Ad-aware/300...ml?tag=lst-0-2 (spyware)
And in the meantime maybe someone else who's had this problem will provide a different answer

Not a virus

Thanks for your quick response - don't worry my inbox does not have a Spam shortage.

It is not a virus, Adware found some files which it quarantined but OE is still refusing to receive any emails. I can send them by creating a new identity.

It would seem that one or more of the .dbx files is corrupted.

Close OE.
Search for Inbox.dbx and rename it to Inbox.old.

See if it solves the problem.

Sadly this did not work, I've reinstalled Windows which seems to have solved the problem for now.
