i just got a new laptop for college this fall and already have a home desktop. we don't have a network set up and i want to get on the internet with my new comp.(the desktop has dial up modem). Do i have to set up a whole network or is there an easier way?

Welcome
![]() The easiest way would be to get one Cross-Over cable. This will connect your computers. You can then use Windows Internet Connection Software to let your laptop connect to the internet via the desktop.

nope, you don't need a router to connect PC to PC.
A router is a good investvent because most contain a hardware firewall which will help to protect your system. Also, if you get a 4 port router then you have extra ports to add more computers.

is there any way to get the internet on my laptop without connecting my computers? I already have a dial up service ready for it but it is different than my desktop
