Linksys Router not working....help
Today I purchased a Linksys BEFW11S4 router (802.11b) and PCI card...I hooked both up and configured the router. I tried to install the router cd and it said that the pc could not connect to the router and setup could not complete. I've been told the cd install is not needed but I did it because it wasn't working. My PCI card doesn't recongnize any networks. All the power, wireless-b, internet LEDs are blinking. Can somebody please help. I feel like I can never set anything up properly.
Edit: Ok I got them working but now I can't access the internet on my client PC. Help would be appreiated. Last edited by pilgrimpb; July 1st, 2004 at 08:13 PM. |

Hi,
Open a Command prompt and type IPCONFIG are you getting a valid IP For linksys it would probably be 192.168.1.100 Have you setup Internet Explorer to use the LAN. Also check that there is no Proxy Server enabled. How did you previously access the net? Can you access the Router Config?

Yeah I tried to configure the LAN settings I checked automatic script and entered 192.168.1.100 in the address space. There is no proxy enabled. I accessed the net on the host computer. I can access the router config from the cd on the client computer. I didn't enter the Host name or Domain name when I was configuring the router. I've read some ISPs require but some don't. Could this be the source of error? Also when I check the status of the PCI card it says connected for 2:12 and packets sent 34, packets recieved 0. Does this mean its not communicating with the router. But I can connect to the network. Thanks for your help.

have you connected to the router with an ethernet cable? you should setup the router with a cabled connection first. make sure the router has connectivity before trying to setup your internal wireless connection. make sure you have ste the router up with out wep ect. and allow it to broadcast the ssid. this should be locked down after you check open connection.
some sources of interferance are 2.4 ghz phones ditting close to the router or laptop. some baby monators also work in the 2.4ghz range. |

When I try to connect to the net I get some writing in a box with the options retry or work offline. Could the problem be XPs internal firewall. Should I try disabling that. I wasn't getting a ip for the client computer. I'm too tired to do anything tonight so I'm going to try resetting the router and trying to get it to work tomorrow.
Edit: I'm still not getting a valid ip on my client computer. Do I have to assign an ip to it. If so, how? Last edited by pilgrimpb; July 3rd, 2004 at 05:52 PM. |
