computer shuts down on own before it starts

:upset: im back again...
I would appreciate it so much if someone could help me on this. 2 nights ago i fixed my computer from not being able to see the desktop or taskbar. so i ran a system restore from the boot disk (scanreg/restore) and it started working fine. [you can see my other thread]

then last nite after removing some unnecessary programs i decided to restart my computer but it just shut down. then i turned it on again, and before it could get me into the desktop or anything, it shut down. so i thought maybe i can get into safe mode, but i cant. it shows the white blinky " _ " as if it is about to start up, but it just shuts down after that. i dont know what to do. i ran another system restore last night, but it jus keeps doing this. i checked it this morning and ran another system restore, and i still nothing works.... and before it shuts down i can barely read something that flahses and says "error in ....". i cant even get into safe mode because it shuts down before it can get there. the only difference i made to my comp yesterday was that i downloaded "kernel32.dll" and put it into C:/WINDOWS because i kept getting errors with it. could this be the problem? i dont think it's overheated because i had only had it on for less than an hour. i think if i do another restore, it wont be a good one because im running out older ones, or i already might have.... please help

Hi,

Could you define your System Restore as there are different meanings & methods?


I would suggest a Repair Install of the OS.
This means to install the OS over the current installation.
It will replace the system files, but keep programs & data.

well, the way i have been doing this is that a have a boot disk (3.5 floppy) and then i am prompted with A:/ so i type in scanreg/restore. then i choose a date from a small list of dates and it says something like the registry is good and to restart my computer. last time you helped me, this did work. now, i cant even get into safe mode because as it attempts to get there, it shuts down..

i dont think i have a CD with the OS.... how can i get one?

Did you get any Install or Recovery CD's with the PC?

i have recovery CDs, but those are only for reformating the computer (lose all the data I currently have). I would like to leave this as a last resort...

ok, so it turns out i can use the recovery CD without needing to reformat but samething. i dont know what to do now...
