 hey im new to the forums and i think i have a pretty bad problem that i cant get rid of. i hope someone can help. my OS is windosw Me.
My problem:
After a few minutes of turning on my computer something called "Iexplore" appears when i press ctrl, alt & del. when i choose end task it disappears, and after a few mins its back agian, often there are two "Iexplore" runnig in background.
If im playing a game or on the net my computer freezes for short periods or returns back to the desktop automatically. sometimes it does not return to normal and i have to shut down the computer or even plug it out!
i think it may be a trojan or possibly a virus.....ive tried programmes like S&D, hijack this, cwshredder and stinger....none have worked i have tried researching the internet but found nothing.
Also my startup, as far as i know, is infected.........with such things like
LoadPowerProfile and numerous other unfailiar items.
Your help would be greatly appreciated.
Duffy.

How does "Iexplore" appear? As a Blue Screen?
Your HJT log does not appear to be the full log either.

How does "Iexplore" appear? As a Blue Screen?
Your HJT log does not appear to be the full log either.
firstly, it does not appear as a blue screen it is an unseen item running in the background. for example if im playing a game the game freezes, returns to the desktop. when i press ctrl, alt and del....there is a program called "Iexplore" running.
and about the hjt log ....i cant explain?........for that i :clicked scan>sale log>and posted it.

OK, so it appears as a running task then. However, I did find this: http://www.kephyr.com/spywarescanner/library/systemdir.iexplore/index.phtml
Look at the suggestions there to see if it actually is an impostor, then, if it is, follow the removal instructions.
As for HJT, there is a new version, did you use it?

Hey JMF,
Thanx for researching that info. im just curious
Manual removal
Start your computer in safe mode (http://www.kephyr.com/spywarescanner/library/glossary/safemode.phtml).
Start Windows Explorer (http://www.kephyr.com/spywarescanner/library/glossary/windowsexplorer.phtml) and delete:
%SystemDir%\iexplore.exe
Note: %SystemDir% is a variable (? (http://www.kephyr.com/spywarescanner/library/glossary/variable.phtml)). By default, this is C:\Windows\System (Windows 95/98/Me), C:\WINNT\System32 (Windows NT/2000), or C:\Windows\System32 (Windows XP).
why must i restart in safe mode?
also, what do u know of LoadPowerProfile....i researched it and it is said to be a virus??

Safe Mode is required, otherwise Windows has the files in use and 'locked' so that they cannot be deleted. Your HJT log still appears truncated. For example here is mine:

yeah i see wat your saying about my log, i d/l the new HJT, so im still confused:dizzy:
i deleted the iexplore in safe mode so i will report back if it has dissapeared.
another thing that is annoying me at the mo is when i try to shut down my computer there is always an unnamed programmed that has to be closed through the "end task" method.
For example: i go to Start>shut down>.......then i dialogue box appears asking to end task(there is no name on it?)
I think it may be linked.

DuffYIt might be something in the Startup group that's not shutting down properly. Does it occur in Safe Mode, out of curiosity?

The fact that it doesn't happen in Safe Mode leads me to believe it could be a device driver. (Some device drivers do not get loaded in Safe Mode)
Have a look at this Windows Me Shutdown Troubleshooter (http://aumha.org/win4/a/shtdwnme.htm) page for more options.

somebody with more knowledge and who might have seen something like this before! How do you measure knowledge? I am sorry I can't wave a magic wand and solve your problem from the other side of the Atlantic Ocean.
Did you even look at the troubleshooting page I directed you to? Did you try any of the suggestions? If so, please list them for the next person that may try and help you so they don't repeat any suggestions.
Hopefully Bill Gates will drop by and solve your problem.

WOW, that lecture was just good time wasted.
Look through the thread, you said:
:fyi: I am new at the spyware game, so bear with me!
So of course im going to look for someone with better knowledge.
Might i suggest a website for you in the meantime!!

I am new at the spyware game, yes.
As for the other problem you were having, I directed you to a helpful site. You did not post back if anything there helped to solve your problem or if you even tried anything. How is anyone to assist you furhter if you don't tell us what has already been tried? Troubleshooting is a process of elimination as I am sure you understand.
I hope you get the help you need.
Oh, and here's a site for you: http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm
