Does this happen with every link or only a certain one?

Hi Cajeannie,

Could be your privacy settings or even a pop up blocker. If you trust the link, hold down the Ctrl key when you click on the link, if it works and you're happy, tell the pop up blocker to allow pop ups for that particular site. If that isn't it, check your privacy settings for cookies in Tools>internetOptions>Privacy.

Good luck

Cheers

Hello,
I use to have a "pop-up" blocker...but at the present time, I do not have that anymore. I did as you suggested by going to tools, Internet options, privacy, and edit Websites...added MSN.com, and MSN hotmail. I tried clicking on a link again...however, the same blank window opened...that was all. I do not have a firewall either...so that cann't be blocking it. Help Cajeannie

Hi,

Did you try holding Ctrl key down when clicking on the link? If not, give it a try, see what happens. If it still doesn't work, check cookie setting in Tools>Internet Options>Privacy? If it is high, set it to medium then try your link again.

Also, you really should have a firewall, spy/adware removal tools and anti virus software. Have a look in the Cyber Safety Forums for the nightmares people experience, but don't post any links in this forum with regards to safety. You can post there and you will be given absolute professional guidance how to secure your system with freeware.

Cheers

Does this happen with every single link? Or only links that open in a new window?

Also if you could please try once again to post your Hijack This Log.

Go here and click the
blue button that says "download now", it will send you to a page and after a few seconds a dialog box will pop up, choose save and have it saved in its own folder. Then find that folder and run the hijackthis.exe file. Click the Scan button then click the Save log button, save the log somewhere. Now there should be a notepad window open with the log, select it all, rightclick, choose cut, then come here, and in a reply, righclick and choose paste then post the message.

Enatt66, I just found your reply...it happens with any link...that is a blank window opens..at the top it says Microsoft Internet Explorer provided by Astound.net. Astound.net is my internet provider...I will try what you suggested about "Hijack". It has happened again, when I clicked on "this" in your message. Cajeannie

Try typeing in this address to download Hijack This:
http://www.spychecker.com/program/hijackthis.html

Or if that doesn't work try
http://209.133.47.12/~merijn/files/HijackThis.exe

(the second one isn't working for me at the moment, but the site may be back up when you try it)

Try this...fixes the "blank page" problem most of the time:
Run the following commands from start/run. Run each line individually. After each run, you should see a short message stating the command was successful. The first command is the one most likely to work.
regsvr32 Urlmon.dll
regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 Shell32.dll (only applicable to Windows ME, Windows 2000 and XP - if using Win95 or 98, run regsvr32 shdoc401.dll)
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 Mshtml.dll

It has been noted that replacing OLEAUT32.dll will work when all else has failed. Do that using System File Checker

Thank you for responding to my question...I did try what you suggested...however, I got the message that none of those modules existed...at least in my computer. Cajeannie
