I just purchased a used compaq presario 1010 laptop. I tried to reload the operating system and found out that I had the wrong disk now the laptop won't boot up. What can I do? Can I get a new compaq disk to load system software can I use just a regular op sys disk (windows 98 se) and just install it or do I need a special boot disk?

If the CD's Autorun feature still runs on the copmputer, it is possible to install a different copy or even upgrade the existing Windows based operating system.
The question is, can your system handle it?
Can you post the specs of your machine so we can see what's going on?

Actually YOu cant upgrade A Compaq. They make there own motherboards ext. So you have to buy a new one. YOur PC should boot. Try Useing a startup disk.

If you have a legal copy of an os not already installed on another computer, you should be able to use it in your laptop. You can download any drivers you need from here (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/setupCategory?product=94910&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&os=19&tool=softwareCategory&) at compaqs website.
