Java Trouble

I'm having a terrible time with my Java.

I have to reinstall it every day or second day at best. The most recent version I tried was the Beta 1.5, and it lasted a full 2 days.

When it stops working, every time I try to use any program that requires Java, it just shoots me back to the desktop instead of bringing up the java coffee cup at the bottom of my screen.

I have to uninstall and reinstall almost daily and it's driving me crazy!!!!

Anyone have any ideas?

Just editing to add the following. I was really fed up with uninstalling and reinstalling so I came here to post my question before the next reinstallation. Guess what? It won't install at all anymore. The installation works fine, but I don't even get a few hours of Java use, let alone a day or two. I've uninstalled and reinstalled twice in the last 10 minutes and am having no luck whatsoever!!!!

HELP ME PLEASE! I live to play euchre and can't bear to be without it for much longer!

Go into ADD/REMOVE and uninstall it. Reboot, then go to Sun and get Java 2SE 1.4.2_04 SDK and JavaVM .Install both

The closest I found to your suggestion above is the following which includes Netbeans.

http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html

I couldn't find VM anywhere on the site even after using the search feature.

Thank you Pancake.

I have bookmarked the site and version and will try it when this current one fails again tomorrow or the next day. It took me about 12 uninstalls and reinstalls to get it working again, so I don't want to delete what I have right now. At least I have something to try when it fails next.

Thanks again.

Well, my other installation worked for several days (a record!!!), and then failed. I tried the new version that Pancake recommended and it only lasted a day.

When it takes me back to the desktop it puts a file icon there (and sometimes just puts the file into the system without the icon) called hs_err_pid4......

There must be a way to keep Java running and me playing Yahoo euchre! It also fails on Pogo games (Word Whomp) and my son plays several different Java games on a site I believe is called Coffeebreak.com

Please help!

I think its time to see whats running in your files system as I'm thinking something is not right.
Can you run "HijackThis",save it to a folder, run the scan an then save and post the log here.
