Other Browsers Won't Connect

I have Win XP and have used IE for years. Now, for some reason, no other browsers will connect! I've tried Netscape, Mozilla, and Opera--all give a "Connection Refused" message. I installed a Belkin router the other day, but that is the only change to my system.
Help!

Welcome

Check in Internet Explorer options.
Goto the LAN settings and see if a Proxy Server is being used.

Are you using a Firewall?
Try diabling it then try the other browsers.

Also see if you can use them without the Router.

Did the other browsers only stop working when you installed the router?

The Proxy is not checked. I disconnected the router and disabled the firewall...still doesn't work! Thanks for the suggestions, though.

Have you used any Internet Security or Proxy software?

Seems strange to have 3 other browser not working, but having IE working.

PROBLEM SOLVED! Even though I was not using Zone Alarm anymore, it apparently left a "footprint" (I bet there's a better term for it!) in my system that prevented other programs from connecting. I uninstalled, and now it and my FTP programs work! YEAH

Thanks for the update

btw, I would still recommend that you use a software filewall along with the router.

I would recommend ZoneAlarm.
I rarely have problems with it, but you may think differently

you may want to run a program such as ace utilitities (there are other good ones also) that will clean your registry and your computer for stray files and as you call them footprints.

As with the previous reply, I highly recommend a software firewall also. Anyway, glad you got things working.
