I have a problem with my NTL dial-up connection. I can dial and connect, but then I can only download data for a limited period of time (varying from 30 seconds to two hours, but averaging about 10 minutes). Eventualy, the computer realises the internet connection isn't working and disconnects.
Then, if I'm lucky I can reconnect again, straight away for another unknown period of time, otherwise no dial-tone is detected and I have to restart my computer in order to try again. The problem seems worse during the daytime. Since I'm a student and only at home for three month, broadband isn't really an option due to the minimum 12 month contracts. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

First thing I would check is the telephone line. Call your phone company and ask them to do a line check. They can do this check over the phone.
