I've been trying for two days to fix this. I'm hoping some of you savvy people can help. I have electric broadband meaning I have a modem that connects to the power outlet and then connects to my pc with an ethernet jack connected to the modem. I run XP Home. We had a power outage yesterday. Since then I cannot access the internet and it's not a building problem apparently since other computers using this ISP can access the internet. My IP address renews every Sunday so I don't know if that's the problem since I wasn't connected when it was time to renew.

Basically, I get a DNS error when I try to log on with broadband. I've tried the Ip release and renew and it says I cannot connect to the DHCP server and to contact my ISP which is of course closed til tomorrow. I have tried repair and I get the same error.

I have tried disconnecting and reconnecting, uninstalling and installing, rebooting...everything imaginable and nothing works. Pinging works. I get sent and received packets. However, the IP address it is giving me is not a valid IP address as it starts with 169. I don't know what else I can do to get my broadband working. Today was my day to work on my online business and my entire Sunday and Monday have been ruined. I'm at the end of my rope...don't know how else I can fix thisproblem.

Does the Modem have a Reset button?

Are there any lights on the Modem?

It does sound like a hardware problem. You may need a new modem.

I know you've probably already tried this but if you haven't you've got nothing to lose.

If your modem doesn't have a reset button unplug the power and plug it back in.

I got same problem exactly in past time, and you know what I did?? I configured my computer to be as Clint in LAN, it's mean my computer be came clint and uses a local IP address which is: 192.168.0.1 if you know what does this IP number mean you will not face any other problems :)

Don't change you hardware, there is nothing wrong
