Hi everyone...
Just joined the team - after battling that "allaboutsearching" crud a few months back on my work desktop computer, now I find casino pallazo on my home laptop. I thought I was safe with Zone alarm, ad-aware and spybot (all of these and my MS updates performed weekly) - obviously not. Dunno how I got infiltrated, but I did, and its scary - can't even remove the favorites it creatd
Now, the simple taks of downloading HJT is causing a "problem" for me. Probably indicative of my level of computer expertise (or lack thereof)...
Please help this downtrodden e-soul... I read the thread advising the 'halting' of any D/L accelerator programs (not running any to my knowledge) - so here's my boggle :dizzy: :
Using Winzip 8.0, I complete the D/L then try to extract file - I get this:
ERROR IN FILE #1: bad zip file offset (error local header signature not found)
Here's the log:
Extracting to "C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\"
Use Path: no Overlay Files: yes
warning [C:/TWEAK/hijackthis1977.zip]: extra 35 bytes at beginning or within Zip file (attempting to process anyway)
Error in file #1: bad Zip file offset (Error local header signature not found): 0
(attempting to re-compensate)
Error in file #1: bad Zip file offset (Error local header signature not found): 0
I never had issues with winzip - never. Do I have a virus? bacteria? Is it me? Someone help me please - at this point, I'm wouldn't be surprised if someone responds "Change your time of day 57 minutes ahead, do not eat lunch until 3 and hit control-F6 with your left hand on top of your head."
Sorry, but I am almost to the point of flinging these computers out the damn Windows (2K and XP). Sigh.............................
PS - I wrote a letter to Senator McCain (even though I'm not in his costituency) asking that he pass legislation to go after these illicit program which take control of your computer --- even had a few suggestions for sentencing (I'll spare you the gory details...)
Seriously - any help would be appreciated. I'd like to one day get back to playing my guitar .
