Mozilla firefox Plugins

I recently downloaded and installed Mozilla Firefox because i heard it block spyware better than IE. After using it, i noticed that some plugins aren't working. for example, flash shows up as a puzzle image and when i click it, it tells me to get the plugin. I have flash player and it worked in IE, but I am new to firefox and aren't sure what to do. Your help is greatly apreciated. Thanks
