wireless network help

ok i was tryin to set a 2 computer network up for someone who was using the latest linksys wireless-G router and one wireless g pc card. The speedbooster ones for those familiar. The one computer connects to the net just fine through the router but that one is wired. The other has the wireless card on a windows 98 computer and for some reason can access the router and the other computer just fine, but cannot access the internet. At first i was having trouble doing anything because the compter seemed to refuse to use DHCP and kept resetting the IP on me and wouldnt renew-release. Eventually i said screw it and assigned my own on the network. Like i said though i cant get on the net, my suggestions were maybe upgrading IE (longshot) or just upgrading the OS seeing as how its "suppose" to work with 98 i know the actual chances of doing that with no problems occuring are slim. Just lemme know what u all think the problem may be because the linksys faq says to do something with WEP which is the encryption but i dont see how that would help seeing as its turned off on both the card and router.

when you say you cannot get to internet have you tried pinging past your router ie your modem ip / gateway ip / dns server ip / outside ip like 66.94.234.13 (yahoo) this will check your connection and if you can ping by ip have you setup dns for the static ip on your win 98box ?
