how do i backup my hard drive?

i cant even get into windows and so i was told there's something wrong with my harddrive and one of the steps is to back up the harddrive. what does this mean, and how do i do it when i cant even use windows?

Hi,

When you say you can't get into windows, do you come up to a Windows ME startup menu which has 4 options to choose from? Something like this:

1. Normal
2. Logged (\BOOTLOG.TXT)
3. Safe Mode
4. Step-By-Step confirmation

yeah i do, and i have been attempting to get into any one of those modes, especially safe mode, but once Explorer is about to start, my computer just shuts down on its own. that's why i say i cant get into windows.

Hmmmm...........Your computer just shuts down by its self? You get no error message?

yeah, but nevermind this thread because i sent it to a repair shop. it had a virus
