what is a floppy? :michaelan
Seriously, basically they are dead. I never use mine and did not even bother to get one on my laptop. I use a usb jumpdrive when I want to transfer files between computers. Holds alot more and more convenient. The only problem with it is harder to find under the mess on the computer desk. :D

Some of us use floppy drives quite often.
I work on other peoples computers every day, and many times a floppy is the tool of choice. Its amazing what you can carry on a disk, and often I sit in front of PC's that won't boot to anything but a floppy. Some older PC's don't even have a CD-Rom, but the owners still use them...and they all have floppy drives. Lots don't have USB (bye-bye thumbdrives).
An 'Emergency Reload OS Disk' I have will boot about anything with an OS...any flavor. Also, lots of computers don't have a CD burner - only way to save anything off them is with the floppy drive. I guess I could carry an external burner, but I'd have to install it first...and, without USB ports,....well, floppies are still all that and a bag of chips to some of us. Real workhorses. Slow, crappy, cheap workhorses - but they get the job done so we can go home. :)

I use floppies to carry stuff to and from school. I haven't tried it but I am sure that the security systems would not like usb drives. (they lock us out of the start menu for pete's sake)

Try installing a RAID array without a floppy. Have fun! ;)
