I run a Lynksys router (can't remembere the exact router) it is an A + B router. Currently I have the router using B enabled and A disabled. I am having an issues that the wireless network crashed to the point that I see on my desktop that the network was unpluged and then connected back. I have two computers on my router. One upstairs using wireless and one downstairs hard wired into the router. Any ideas? I changed the channel and that seems to fix it for a bit, but it seems to happen in the late evening. Last time I had this issue, I have a new neighbor at my old place that moved in and started broadcasting his network. I know that both my current neighbors do not have computers let alone networks. I am also 2 miles from a coffee shop that has a wireless broadcasting point, but my problem only started a few days ago. Will a newer router fix this problem? I know my router is an older one and I did not know if newer ones have fixed this issue or if I should get new firmware for my router.

Please help.

I am guessing that you have reset your WAP already?

Have you upgraded to the latest firmware in your WAP?

What sort of signal strength are you seeing when your wireless is working? Any problems?

What channels did you change from and to? Try 1, 6, and 11.

Have you de-installed and re-installed the wireless NIC drivers on your PC? Are you running the latest versions of those drivers?

b has speed and distance limitations, imo, if you have an upstairs/downstairs you really need a g. If the previous reply does not help. try the following, if able to, try moving the computer closer to the router to see if you still drop connections. Any new electonics for the house? You may need an extra access point

Hello, jfarling!

Just one more question:

Would you have introduced any relatively big metallic body in the path between your access point and your computer?

By the way: is signal level somewhat higher when network outage occurs?

Regards.
