my computer freezes on shutdown

Hello folks, would anyone have any idea why my computer freezes on shutdown. When I try to use Ctrl, Alt, Delete..I get the lovley Wait 20 seconds, End task , Cancel, applet. When I choose any of the 3 options I receive this message. "Mdm has caused an error in unkown, and if I close this applet then I get another message saying I have also now got an error in pintray.

My only option to shut the computer down is to turn off the power at the power bar. When I reboot ..I get the wonderfull 'free' scan disck for errors and on competion a reload that needs to have the active desktop restored.

I have a clean sweep from my anti-virus program and Pest control tells me I am also trojan free. My OS is Wndows me on a desktop computer 1 year old ..unintegrated system.

Any information and help will be most welcome. starlady

Check if you have a error on your hard drive.

>Double-Click on the My Computer icon

>Right-Click on the Drive C: (or your default boot drive)

>Select Properties

>Select Tools

and Check the drive volume for errors. that usually fixes problems like that.

Thanks for your suggestion but this did not solve the problem. I am now getting a series of errors as well as thel mdm errors and will reformat and reinstall windows.

I had a nasty virus about 3 months back and it took out some dlls. I re-installed windows over windows, but that seems to be degrading and may be the root of the problem. I use notepad more than any other program and it is after I use notepad that I run into the shutdown problem. I litteraly have to turn off the power in order to reboot, and reactivate my active desktop. I have been told the only way to restore notepad function is with a reformat.

Thanks for answering my question just the same.

No viruse, no trojans, and scan disc says no errors..so who knows ..lolololol after all its only a lot ot wasted time and energy and hardwork to put everything back..but I have stalled this as long as I could.

Unfortunatley ...I have my own website and need notepad to function.
