Over the top installation

Hi. I need some help with windows ME. This is my brother-in-laws computer and we are trying to reinstall ME without loseing any personal files. I know how to do it in win 98 but not ME. He has a restore disc and tryed to use it once but ran into problems. Now he wants to download DirectX 9 but can't. Is there a way to reinstall ME useing the windows/options/cabs files like you can do in win98? If so how? If not please give me a step by step of how to reinstall windows ME without the restore disc. He is also running Norton SystemWorks. Should we uninstall it first then reinstall it afterwards? Any info will be a big help. Thanks.

Yes you can use the Options>Cabs> folder to do a repair install. The same as Win98.
