I am hoping somebody can help me here. I reformatted a friends computer and everything was going excellent. I have the Windows 98 second edition CD and went through the setup steps. I inserted the original Windows 98 that came with the computer when I was prompted to, but it will not recognize the setup files. The cd was still in its original sleeve and has never been used. I inserted the cd onto my computer and the setup files are there. Am I missing something? Can somebody out there who has some knowledge in this field help me?
Thanks ahead of time!

Welcome :)
You are trying to install 98SE?
Are you upgrading? The only reason why you would need the 98 CD for is to verify that you have the original CD.
The setup files are not needed from the original CD.

Sorry everybody for not being more specific. I tried just using the Windows 98 cd that came with the computer *before using the 98 SE*, but after trying to use it after I put in the boot disk, it says it cannot run in dos. Ive tried other bootdisks from Bootdisk.com but they dont work. They all say invalid blah blah please take the disk out and hit any key. There is only one boot disk that will work that I have and it works fine. Just when I go to use the Windows 98 cd it doesnt work, but the Windows 98 SE worked just fine until I had to put the 98 FE in and it wouldnt recognize the setup files. Am I doing something wrong? The disk that came with the computer says all you have to do is type d:\setup after the computer is booted and it should start working. It just doesnt want to follow that command. :( Is there anything I can try?
Thanks again!

When you boot up from the floppy disk check to see what drive letter is assigned to the CD ROM.
