View Full Version : Sick of Reboots

I have to reboot 7 or 8 times a day or more to get IE 6...1106CO to work again. I'm running Win98 all patched up as an OS.

I am just doing regular browsing and IE just stops connecting, no error messages. Its as if I unplug from my LAN. BTW - Outlook cannot connect either ... so it looks like I lose it all.

Here's what I've done:

Run SpyBot, Hijack, TrendMicro, HiJack and AVG Scans
Patched IE up to the latest.
Set all IE security levels back to default and even done a repair.

That did not stop it, so Reinstalled Win 98SE.

Still no luck.

This problem is in Windows because ...
I can run ipconfig /all at a shelled out dos prompt and I show I have connection to my ISP. In fact I can successfully ping 3 other PC's we have at our home.

I go back and there's no way to get to the net.

I'd sure would like to figure this one out.

Thanks Jonesy

Check your router settings, 3 pc's I assume your using a router. It may not be configured right for your ISP and is dropping the signal.

Do you have other then TCP/IP protocol installed?

Sorry for a delayed post. We have been away for a week's holidays in the Rocky Mountains. http://www.mountkiddrv.com/

I have NetBEUI installed on all. If I pull it I have trouble with Microsoft shares.

If I can ping everything from DOS, would that not indicate that the Router is going to let WIN traffic through to the net?

BTW, only this one Laptop has the problem. Everything else stays on OK.

Could I have a bad port on the Router, I wonder.

I will switch ports and report (no pun intended).

Thanks

I had to reinstall win98, and IE then patch them all the way up.

The problem quit.
