My neighbor has two pc's I'm trying to get to work together. I haven't tried hooking them in the network yet though.

The problem right now that I'm trying to figure out is the Internet will NOT work through the router. They got a Trendnet 4 port router. If I hook it up, it will not connect to the internet. When I run the Auto config, it cannot find the Wan connection. I tried this on their XP machine and their 98se machine. Neither will detect it.

The internet light and the Lan light are lit on the router.

I called the Manufacturer and they walked me through setting it up. That didn't work. They said the DSL modem must be the problem.

The DSL modem is the Cable box in their living room. (no modem at the PC)

The ISP says it is the computer. (But, two separate machines doing the exact same thing rules that one out) They also said it must be in the router. (But, I brought it home and hooked it to my PC with Cable Internet and it works great. Took about 2 minutes to have it working like it should)

I figure it has to be in the DSL Setup. The modem is most likely the cause.

Would you all have any other IDeas?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Have you checked the cable between the CableBox and the Router?

The cable works fine. If you plug it straight to the Computer it works. You can surf the net without any problems. Just doesn't work when hooked to the router.

Are there any specific instructions for setting up the modem.

I know with my sometimes I have to reset the modem, then reset the router to detect the new IP Address and DHCP settings.

Are there any updates to the firmware that might help?

There aren't any updates to the firmware. I checked for that immediately.

Ok, here is everything I have done.

To setup the Router, you are supposed to just plug everything in correctly. Then run their setup wizard and let it auto detect. That is where I get the message to check the WAN settings and run the wizard again or click next to Manually configure it.

I then tried to manually configure in every manner I could find to do it.

Then I called the ISP and they walked me through setting up a router. (Like they had a clue. Everything they told me to do was what I had already done)

So then I called the manufacturer. They walked me through setting it up and making sure all the settings were correct and using the command prompt to Release and renew the IP. That didn't work either. (also reset the modem, but that didn't do anything either)

They will be back sometime sunday. I will go over and hook the router up in their living room and then run out to the PC. Just to check and see if the cable that came with the router to hook to the modem, to the internet port on the router is maybe a crossover or some other style. That will rule out any possibility of it being anything other than their stupid MODEM setup.

I will post back with the results.

I will say that it has to be something with their Modem. I hooked it to my Cable modem and then hooked my pc up to it and it took maybe 2 minutes tops and it was ready to roll.

I finally got to go back over and work on the router last night. I took the Cat 5 cable that the ISP had run out and used my own. It worked great first time out. No problems what so ever.

So the problem I had was in the cable. Thanks for the help.
