1. Boot from the win95 bootdisk. Type "fdisk" then the enter button at the prompt.
A. Select 3 from the menu. Follow the instructions to delete (or remove) all partitions, if any. If there's more than one partition to delete and you get reverted to the main menu after deleting each, then just choose and do 3 again until they're all gone. If the last sentence doesn't apply, COOL! B. Next, Esc to the main menu and choose 1. Follow the instructions to create the Primary DOS Partition. If it wants to scan the disk (verify drive integrity), let it. Next, choose Y to use the maximum available size. It might scan again, let it. Next it will want you to formally enter the partition size. (I guess Yes just isn't enough.) Type "100%" then press enter. Press esc to continue. C. Select 2 from the menu. Type "1" then press enter. Press Esc to return to the menu. D. Select 4 to check if everything's how we tried to make it. If everything looks good press Esc repeatedly until you are at the command prompt. Step 1 may or may not be necessary, but it doesn't hurt and you sounded like you're starting from scratch. 2. Reboot 3. Type "format c:" at the command prompt, then press enter. Then "Would you like to format another dive?". Choose NO. 4. Type "sys c:" at the command prompt, then press enter. 5. Now to check if your CD-ROM and the software that works with it is all proper. Type "d:", then press enter. If the prompt now has d instead of a, things are working fine. If your win95 installation cd is called the "Companion" disk, post a reply telling me so and ignore what's below. 6. Type "setup" then enter. 7. Failing that, type "d:\win95\setup" then enter. If this doesn't help, post a reply. Matt |

Howdy:
A Win95 bootdisk does NOT contain the cd drivers needed to get your cd up and running in order to install Win95.. Go to www.bootdisk.com and download the Win98SE or WinME files, install them on a floppy and use that to boot the system with. You will get an option to "Start with cd-rom support".. Choose that one and away you go !! Murray |
