Forgive my ignorance for this post, but I need to move on and I need help.

I recently found that something extremely critical happened to my computer, caused by a human error by one of the better known retail computer stores(no names mentioned, but the initials are CompUSA). Anyway, to make a long story short they partially re-formatted the hard drive to the point that the system would no longer function.

I now have a computer with a fully reformatted hard-drive, nothing installed. Can I simply load the new Windows OS (XP probably)? I do not have a systems boot disk, or a copy of the previous system(W98se).

Any advise?

PS I am dealing with management of the store for some sort of recompensation.

Hi,

You should be able to purchase XP and install it by booting from the CD.

Things to check first is that if your PC hardware is supported by XP.
You will also need the drivers for your system. Motherboard, Graphics, Sound, Modem etc.

Okay, so where do I get the drivers?

Is it something that can be downloaded after installation of XP? I believe that the hardware will support XP, as I was going to upgrade from 98se anyway.

Athlon processor 800 MHz
256 RAM
40 Gig HD
CD-RW Drive
DVD-ROM
Ethernet Card
Etc

XP may have the drivers on the CD, otherwise you will have to goto to each manufacturers site.
