Does anybody know if there are DVD disks available higher than 4.7GB?

i heard something about one that is 17.1 GB, but i'm not sure... i found something on it here:
http://www.disctronics.co.uk/technology/dvdintro/dvd_formats.htm

it also explains the dvd anatomy... quite interesting...eh?

Thanks Drum2jc. Interesting site.

Years ago, I had a friend burn a lot of my vacation movies onto a DVD. (7.6GB to be exact) Now other friends of mine are requesting copies because they're in some of them & the movies are just too darn funny for one person to hold onto.

I've tried Nero6 "recode" which wound up taking 19hrs (and didn't work) & DVDShrink which tells me that there is not enough room to burn on the 4.7GB blank disk after it analyzes & reads. I'm stuck.

My friend who originally did this for me unfortunately cannot help. I wish I knew, no, I wish I would have been sitting beside him when he was doing this favor for me because most likely I wouldn't be asking someone here for help. I am completely out of ideas. Can anybody shed some light on this? Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks.

I was hoping to avoid having to purchase a new double-sided DVD burner & player. My thoughts are if my vacation movies were burned onto a disk previously, then I can also do the same. I just don't know how. Thanks for your help.
