Install 98 at the C prompt

i just bought a dell l400 with no cd or floppy drive and the person did not put an o/s on the computer...i start up and all i get is the c prompt... how do i load my o/s? i bought a external drive, but i still get the c promopt

What kind of external drive?

it is an iomega cd/dvd drive...i also have a dell usb memeory card...if that could work?

Enter the BIOS and see if you can set the Boot Device to External, Other or USB (is it USB?)

i can set it to (removable devices, internal hard drive, atapi cd-rom drive and network boot)

Try Removable Devices.

If that doesn't work then you may need to find the DOS drivers for the External CD Rom.

What is the Make & Model?

it is a dell L400, i am pretty much computer illerate, so i do not know how to load a "DOS drivers for the External CD Rom"

i set it to removable devices and rebooted and i get the c:> prompt and do not know what to do? the dvd is a Iomega® Super DVD Writer 8x All-Format USB 2.0 External Drive

Hi,
You may have to create a bootdisk to support your USB drive.
