View Full Version : Cursor Jumping around

I am sure this could fit into some other forums, but I am not sure which ones!

THis is not a new problem. I have experienced it on a number of PCs, and more specifically on portables, and with different configurations and OSs, so I have no idea what is causing it. It's being going on for years rather than weeks and it is really bugging me (no pun).

When I type text, and that could be in Word, or in an email or in a variety of proggies, and it can be plain text or rtf or HTML, now and again, my cursor jumps to a different plcae in the text, randomly. It doesn't keep moving around: it just jumps once then settles down for a while (minutes?) before it does it again.

Now you can imagine what it does: I am typing away not looking at the screen too much and next thing I know, my last sentence is incomplete because part of it is now in the middle of my text...I have been typing away in the middle of an existing text.

If this is infuriating writing an email of Messenger text, you can imagine how flipping nerve-racking it is when I have to type a long document. I am wasitng so much time re-jigging text that has gone pear shaped as a result.

Either I am the only one in teh world withthis persistent problem across PCs and configs, or others have inquired too and there may be a solution.

I hope so.I am desperate.

Please help.

First off welcome to CTH:)

Since you seem to be having this problem on different computers with different keyboards with different operating systems...those are all variables, and there is one constant, you:) I have a hunch (I could be wrong) that since you sound like a fairly good typer and since you say the problems happen mostly on portables, you are going so fast you accidentally hit a key that makes the cursor jump. Hitting the wrong key is very easy on a laptop.

Now the problem is figuring out what you are pressing:

Try this demo of a keylogger:
http://www.download.com/Ghost-Keylogger/3000-2092-10252681.html?tag=lst-0-2

I found it will log even keys like alt and ctrl and that way you can see what you are pressing. Just type till it happens and look at the log with the program, see what was pressed right before the cursor jumped. If you can't figure out how to use the keylogger free trial just ask:)

If you figure out what it is tell us so we can help you uninstall the free trial of the keylogger and figure out a solution (it may come to disableing a key or physically removing it)

You know, I never thought of that!

It is possible, and I must admit I was always puzzled by the fact that this happens on several PCs. Yet I have also had computers where this never happened. Also, there is no distinct pattern as to where the cursor jumps back into the text.

Still, it is a very original suggestion and I will try that. In the meantime, I would love to hear from anybody else who may have had the problem too or heard about similar issues.

Thank you for that! More news when it happens!
