Windows Explorer/DOS crashing

Hi,
was backing up the hard disk and started getting problems when trying to delete files (system taking ages, etc.). The upshot was that any access to Windows Explorer (or even DOS) caused a crash. I have now reinstalled Windows 98, checked for viruses, spyware, etc. but still get a crash (normally the Windows error is "Explorer not responding", or, occasionally, ctfmon...). This is extremely unwanted downtime when I am trying to pack up my office into boxes.

Thanks if anyone can help!

Welcome to CTH

Are you running OFFICE XP?

Ctfmon.exe (Ctfmon) runs in the background, even after you quit all Office programs.

I am indeed running Office XP. However, since my first post, I ran Spybot again and the problem seems to have disappeared (although I still cannot see my network drives).
