Windows 98SE startup problems

Help, when I boot my PC it says "No OS found, insert OS setup disc, then press any key"

But booting from the Windows 98 CD just gives me options to reinstall windows.

Any idea how to get windows to start?

thanks all

Welcome

What happened before you got this message?

You need to find out if the whole OS has gone, or just the BOOT files.

Download this file
http://files.frashii.com/~bootdisk/sandy/boot98c.exe

Run the file in Windows and it will prompt for a floppy disk.
This will create a startup disk.

Boot from this floppy and at the A:\ prompt type

DIR C:
press enter

See what files are listed.

If it is just a boot problem then at the A:\> prompt type
SYS C:
press enter

Remove the floppy and reboot. See if it loads.

Unhappy Windows 98 Will Not Boot

I am having a problem with windows 98 when I turn on my computer. It acts as if it is going to boot up correctly. When I it goes to the blue screen that displays window 98 it hangs there.

I went into safe mode and I was told that I had a corrupt config.sys file on line 2. I also tried using my quick restore cd when I use them right towards the end of the session I receive the following error message "Error#45 CRC dat error" Can anyone assist with this problem? I have been struggline with this for last two days.
