MIDI Sounds
I have just discovered that my computer will not play MIDI sounds. I ran dxdiag, and it says everything is fine. I am using WIN98SE, and my sound driver is Crystal Audio Codec I can play CD's, WAV sounds, and the computer makes the appropriate noises at all the right places, but when I try to play a file with the extension .MID, I get no sound
I can find no conflicts, and, as I said, the DXDIAG program found nothing wrong. Any ideas? Tom |

Right click a MID file and go to OPEN WITH, if OPEN WITH is not on the menu, then hold down the SHIFT KEY and right click. Now select the program you want to use to play the MIDI file. Check to use this program all the time. If it doesn't play then in CONTROL PANEL | SOUND | MIDI TAB make sure the right sound card is there to use for MIDI files.

MIDI Sounds

I used Windows Media Player o play the file "Canyon.mid". It appeared to play, but no sound came forth. In WIN98SE|CONTROL PANEL|SOUND there is no MIDI TAB option. There is merely a listing of events, and the ability to choose a .wav file for each event. I don't understand what you mean by "the right sound card". There is only one in my computer, and the dxdiag.exe program says it is behaving properly. Tom |
