Has this been posted before? Does anyone care? I just found an article about Wilders discontinuing analyzing hjt logs. For those whom are interested here is a reprint.

This message is being posted to give you all early notice of a change we'll be making shortly at Wilders Security Forums.

The rising number of HijackThis log postings and the loss of key staff have resulted in our inability to keep up with both the volume and increasing complexity of the logs now being posted at Wilders. As this is leading to significant numbers of unanswered threads, and is causing a corresponding increase in member frustration and complaints, we have decide to discontinue the processing of HijackThis logs at our forum.

Any forum that leaves too many un-responded logs is actually creating additional work for the limited number of helpers that we all share. Many of those who have infected systems will simply post their logs at multiple forums, especially if they go unanswered too long at one. This is a common problem we all share because of fragmented resources spread across our respective forums.

We believe that a smaller number of centralized and dedicated spyware analysis and cleaning forums, coming with the necessary funding and staffing, is actually a more practical approach which could result in much more long-term success than we’re seeing from the current separate, fragmented approach.

At Wilders, we will continue to focus on general security, prevention and other related support matters, and will refer any spyware analysis requests to whichever sites whose owners are open to such referrals

Well I was thinking that means so many more hjt logs will be pouring into other forums. I was kind of warning everyone. However it is kind of weird....yes we want to help you...we are going to tell you to go somewhere else.

I hate to see them bail on logs but I guess I understand that they can only do so much with the people available. If they can't keep up they can't just "hire" more volunteers. They do a lot more there than just hjt logs. They'll stay busy helping people in other ways.

I've seen Anne Marie, tb525, don77, dammit and others here post and post and post with help on hjt logs. I don't know where they find the time, but if they and the others here who help didn't spend that time and effort who would respond to the posts? It seems lately that our own Cyber Safety Forum has almost been devoted exclusively to logs. If the workload here tripled would the help triple?

I just dropped in at Wilders and there's almost 300 people online.

Wilders isn't the only forum feeling the load. I've seen other forums asking for help to check logs.

I guess that when such forums took on the task of helping folks solve problems using HJT, they never realized the magnitude of the problems that would be posted. It makes ya wonder how we ever coped before such a little program was created!!

Too bad the hijack log process isn't automated...I bet someone could crete a database of bad lines in hijack this, and create a program to automatically fix most of the problems and then tell the user if any additional uninstalling of malware is needed on their part.

Not really fair because you need the expertise to correctly diagnose the logs.

There have been problems at CTH where bad info has been given about logs and others have had to pickup the pieces.
