Yes, you can use the new PC to download whatever distro you are interested in and use the CD burener to burn the ISOs to CD and then install it on the old Compaq.
Word of advice though, you may want to increase the RAM in the old machine. Latest distros of Linux may run on 64MB but it will be a frustrating experience. (but probably no more so than WinME )

Yes i do hate windows me! I tried it today and had problems. I downloaded Mandrake 10 disc 1, burned it to cd. I put in the old compaq, and nothing happend, no installation or anything. So i figured it was a problem in the bios, i fixed the bios to boot from cd drive. It had no effect! So im out here in the middle of the dark, trying to get Mandraek 10 to work!! Any help?

Most common mistake - did you happen to just burn the ISO file to CD? You need to create a CD from the ISO image file. What CD burning software are you using?

DO NOT hijack someone else's post.. create your own !!

BTW, don't create 3 with the same question.. I am quite sure a mod is going to lock a couple of them on you !!!

Bigfatdude....You need to burn a cd from image. Use your burning software read the help doc that comes with it I am sure it will tell you how to "burn cd from image", its as simple as looking on the toolbar selecting "new" and "burn cd from image" sometimes. Also note the speed that you burn said image at. You will have the best luck burning your ISO's at the slowest speed your burner will support. Good luck and remember.....its just live and no one will make it out alive.
