I have a connection problem with my (model BEFW11S4) router. It works just fine except that it always has connection breaks. I am quite sure it is not my computer because 1. I never had connection breaks when it was just using a single DSL modem. 2. The same problem recurrs on two other computers that are using that router.

The problem is that my connection "breaks" every few minutes for just a small amount of time, when browsing web pages it rarely poses a problem maybe have to make reload a few times a day but when downloading it is a completely different thing. I have ADSL and my downloads usually stop after 5-15 MB are downloaded, thanks to the break. In my games I also lose connection to the game server every time. In some I even drop out of games because of that. This "break" in connection is not detectable, the lynksis connection wireless lan monitor never detects it, no error messages, no nothing, but it happens. I hear other people never have that problem. Currently my connection is wireless but the router is less than 40 feet away from my computer with only one wall to block it. The other two computers have ethernet cables going to them and the problem is still there so it isn't a wireless issue. Is there something I can do to fix that, is there a reason for it happening, is my router broken? :(

Also to add on to that, recently my wireless connection just stops working all of a sudden requiring a restart. I also often get a VxD error in WMP11.

well according to degs there may be an issue with DHCP in some models of the linksys routers. what worked for me was disabling DHCP and setting the IP addresses manually at each computer. i also downgraded the firmware to a lower version because recent releases have been quite flawed. try disabling dhcp and setting them manually before downgrading.

so far this has worked for my BEFSR41 but because you are running a different model that may not work for you. try it. cant hurt to try something.

as per the VxD error there is a way to fix that thru registry. i will look up the online guide and get back to you on it. i forget the address at this moment.

I was also having the exact same problem and after a month of pulling my hair out, I finally had comcast come out to my residence, they had just recently upgraded thier system to quam256 and it really messed up my signal.

They replaced my modem from the toshiba to the motorola and that took care of 90% of it, I then called them back out and they went through and removed several unneeded splitters and replaced a filter and some outside hardware that had became dirty over the course of a year and a half.. it bumped up my signal enough that it completely fixed my issue.

I would recommend as a troubleshooting idea to log into your modem, and see if there are any failed error messages in your status tab.

Also, post a pic of your signal strength. your ISP might have changed something that borked you.

Does this happen when you take your router out of the equation?
IE: direct connect to 1 cpu from your modem

it didn't happen when i was DCed. when i was DCed i could stay connected for days on end. the routers from linksys just dont have the best dhcp in them.

I am using Bfsr11 Linksys Router i have 4 pc's connected but it's not a wireless,
Another thing i should bring to your attention that most i say most wireless connections aren't as secure as a wired ones, so be very careful.

secondly i doubt it's the router according to what you've described, it sounds more like a setup from either your end or like it was suggested your ISP had changed their signal to you, which messes up the router because it usually works from the cache. as you're probably aware that most routers have inbuilt NAT.

Did you check to see if your IP address changes and how often it changes, if it's the case then you need to let the DHCP take care of it.
If not it is worth giving your ISP a call and get them to come or to test your signal.

POst back for all of us to learn :D

Good luck !!

When we (I'm a young admin of a small business) first installed Zoomtown we were also having that problem. Try doing a registry clean, that seemed to take care of it.
