Hi, recently I made a computer system; AMD K6 233, 128mb Ram, 3.3 Gb HD (formatted), 8mb ATI 3d rage video card all on a Socket 7 8500TTD Motherboard.

Each time I try installing a win98SE OS it keeps on crashing every time, on the last seven minutes of the installation. When I boot the system up again it start windows normally, for the first time after the installation. But, then when I start installing the drivers for my NIC Ethernet card, that’s when all the problems begin. So I install the driver for the Ethernet card and an exclamation marks comes up in DEVICE MANEGER, saying that windows is missing *.vxd files thus I should run setup again. Since it crashes every time I try to install win98, I decided to try another way to resolve this problem; run: SFC (which did not find any missing files). Then I deleted all the Network adapter, protocols and drivers, followed by rebooting the system. But now it won’t eve start windows, it just freezes every time on the Win98 start up screen, (safe mode; the same thing). So the only way I can start the pc was through step by step confirmation, through which I disabled all the drivers. When I started windows without the drivers I deleted the Ethernet card and reboot the system. The pc start perfectly without the Ethernet card but when I put in another Ethernet card same problems all over again. I truly can't find the problem; I changed the power supply thinking that might be a problem, but still the same thing. PLEASE HELP ME; YOUR HELP IS GREATLY APRITIATED!!!

Thank you in advance,

Jeff

Appears you have a IRQ problem, which sometimes happens and generally will conflict with your sound card.

Take all cards out except the Video and boot, Once you get Windows stable with just the Video, then put one card in at a time rebooting and installing drivers. I would put the Network card in before the sound card. The sound card may be easier to configure then the Network card.

Also in bios Setup, disable "PLUG & PRAY".

It does sound like an IRQ problem. I have this board, I'll check the manual at home later, but I believe the neighboring PCI and ISA slot are shared (the ones at the end of each set, closest to each other, with the battery in between) - so don't put cards in both at the same time. Try moving the cards around to different slots to see if that helps. Also, (again I'll check the manual) you may be able to 'reserve' an IRQ for one device, while letting the board automatically assign IRQs for the rest, then finally put the problem device back in the empty, reserved IRQ. This helped me on another board with a SB Live sound card; it was a PCI card but had a legacy ISA emulation mode, which didn't like sharing an IRQ.

I'd like to put a k6-2 400-450 in this machine, can anyone tell me the jumper settings for CPU voltage, FSB and multiplier that worked for them with this chip?
