how to hook up my second computer

i am connected to charter cble and i need to connect my second computer in another room i bought lynksys 4 port router and usb adapter but i dont really understand the steps to connect---ex. does cable go tomodem first? any and all help will be greatly appreciated being that im on dial up on this computer now again thanks in advance----john g

Was there a manual that came with the router?
Basically the cable line goes to the cable modem, the cable modem goes to the router, and the 2 computers connect to it.
