Thumbs down Knoppix says!!

I am in trouble with a win xp not starting past the splash screen wants do disc check then locks up during check.
SOOOO! I thought I would run Knoppix to see what the problem was. However it started off OK then just before Xwindows crashed to a blank screen (sound card was OK and active) then start killall with a note to check < /etc/init.d/xsession start> When I ran the line it came back with no help try <syslog> but the keys were frozen by that time and my options were pull the plug... Original thread is Boot cycling in hardware ....
Btw good to see you back Smurfy.
ANY help will be appreciatted

Have you tried it with the new 256MB stick alone yet?
Actually, save confusion, I'm sure this is a hardware issue (since neither O/S is liking this machine at the moment) so we should keep it all in the original thread:
