reformatting
My PC has a ~1.7 MHz processor, 256 memory, win98se OS.
The disk is 40 Gb divided in two 20Gb partitions C,D with a lot of free space. Lately the computer developed various problems, stops working, loses attributes etc. NAV doesn't detect viruses, deleting a lot of unnecessary programs and un- and reinstalling the OS didn’t help, and I would like to try and reformat the C partition I want to open a folder on D, transfer there all of the C contents, format C and reload the necessary files again. Please advise: 1. is this the right way to overcome the problems? 2. How shall I format the C partition? 3. Will not the formatting of C not influence the D contents? thanks |

first of all if there is spyware, viruses etc involved, reformating then putting the exact same content back on wil not help. You are saving the problems in addition to your content. You need to save only the data you cannot afford to lose and start completely from scratch.

It would be best to only store data files on the D drive.
Such as documents, photos, music etc. If you have problems then you want to format and wipe the C drive and do a clean install. With Win98 you can use a Windows 98 Startup floppy disk and when it loads use the format command to fomat the drive. Then you can install the OS from the CD.
