I a looking for assistance in installing a new cd drive in a hp 6470z hard drive. Can someone give me a hand?

Sure.
Open the case, remove the screws holding your CD in place (on the sides) and slip it 1/2-way out. Unplug the power, IDE, and sound wires. Yank it the rest of the way out.
Install your new drive by reading these directions backwards. :)
The only way to install the CD-RW as a second drive is to tape it to the top of the case and drill holes. A messy job. Quite ugly, too.
Remember to install the drivers that came with the new drive (on a disk, likely). Wouldn't hurt to uninstall the old CD-ROM in Device Manager after the new drive is up and running.
