A few days ago I found that I could not view one of my websites, www.portsmouth1009.com, through a browser. I also found that I could not check mail at my @portsmouth1009.com addresses. This also happens on any computer in the house. I use dreamweaverMX and have no problem connecting to the site with an ftp connection. I can view my other site on the server just fine. These sites have been up for months and all was well. One should find that the site is up and fine on their computer, as I've had friends check this out.
We have comcast cable here and use a model BEFW11S4 wireless-B linksys router, I though, am connected to it via a cable. My server host is www.pair.com with whom I have their advanced account. The computers in the house run win2000 and XP. A wireless laptop running XP through our router also could not connect, but was fine through the modem at the owner's house.
The symptom is simply that the connection 'times out' and cannot connect. When using mozilla mail to check the addresses, this too 'times out'.
My initial thoughts are that the router was blocking the website's addy or that the website was blocking our ip. But I can find no site blocking ability with linksys, nor has anyone in the house been to the router's controls. My serverhost allows one to limit the viewers, ie. ip's to allow, but not block ip's individually, all the same, these are all clear anyway.
I am so stumped right now. This is bizarre. Has anyone a clue as to what I have missed here? I've avoided contacting pair.com or linksys as the problem seems so wide that I fear at this stage I will be told 'it's not them' and to look elsewhere... please amaze me with your vast knowledge. In my next post I will beg.
