Web editting

I am new at running a web site. I recently volunteered to run our association Web site. However, I was advised that I need MS Front Page or the equivalent. Is there a free program or an inexpensive one that I can use to see if I can actually run this site? It is a strictly and Information site that would be updated on a monthly basis. Any assistance would be appreciated.

you only need the software if you do not know html.

so true because FP don't play nice with non microsoft browsers.
