At My Forum

A couple of Members are getting this error message...

The XML page cannot be displayed
Cannot view XML input using XSL style sheet. Please correct the error and then click the Refresh button, or try again later.

End tag 'head' does not match the start tag 'link'. Error processing resource 'http://www.daves-pub.34sp.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=7459'. Line 104, Position 3

</head>
--^

They say they get this after being at the forum for maybe a half hour. So far it's only these two members who have said anything about it. I'm not sure if this is browser related, or maybe the forums program "Invisionboard". Both members use IE, but one has tried Netscape, with the same error occurring. They both claim to have all the Windows Updates.

Any idea's?

Do they still get the message after refreshing?

If it happens after half an hour that points to a cookie or session expiring, if it is that it's something to flag up to the coders of your board software.

I had this problem today wth an IE user Lufbra... and it does seem to be only IE/WIN users. The cause is an XML doctype in the page.. at the very top. For some reason suddenly IE is having problems with it. My solution was to change the doctype to HTML4 transitional. Not a perfect solution but for the page or two defined as XML it won't hurt anything. I don't know what MS has done to IE in the past day or so.. but pages that worked perfectly fine for months suddenly caused errors today becuase of this.

I posted a ummmmmm....post at the forum asking if anyone else is getting this problem, so far no replies other then the two who have mentioned it, they both happen to be moderators, not that it makes any difference. Here's a couple of replies I have had from them...

Quote:
There is no rhyme or reason to when and how I get it. A lot of days I will sail along with no problems - other times, I'll get it after I have been on the board here for a little bit -usually 1/2 to 3/4ths of the way through Games thread. I have tried refresh but it doesn't work. If I close off the internet, shut down my computer and go back - that does seem to work.

I fix it by deleting the cookies set by the board (via the link at the bottom of the index page), then I have to log back in. It's kind of a pain to do that since it marks everthing as unread.
