The last three escapees (an Englishman, Scotsman and Irishman, strangely enough) were still on the run after a mass break out from Colditz, the top security WWII Prisoner of War camp.
As the Gestapo tightened the net on our three intrepid heroes, they found themselves caught in an enclosed courtyard, with no apparent escape route.
As they heard the jackboots getting nearer, the Englishman says
"OK chaps, this is it. Hop into one of these empty sacks and folow my lead".
They all jump in a sack just as the Germans enter. The officer in charge goes over to the Englishman's sack and gives it a hearty kick....
"Meowwwwww" howls the Englishman.
"Zum teufel, zis sack is full of cats, lets see vat are in ze udder vuns"
A jackboot lands heavily on the Scotsmans sack.......
"Woof woof woof" howls our Tartan Terror.
"Zis is full of dogs"
Finally, they approach the Irishman's sack and give it an almighty wallop......
"Potato" shouts Paddy...........
