HELP! I saved over a document I NEED!!!

oh, please help! I am using Microsoft Word on a Mac with OX Panther. I was creating a new word document and saved it over a pre-exsisting one by accident. I desperately need the other document but can't find now. I tried to look in my recent history files but when i pulled up the old name, it was the new document! Can this document be retrieved?

I am not familiar with macintosh but in windows os, sometimes the document can be recovered in the temp folder (not the same as temporary internet folder). It would have a different name. Maybe the same with macintosh????
