Can't access secure web sites

Running Windows ME and Internet Explorer 6. Have been running successfully since 2000, then suddenly can't access secure web pages (were no h/w changes). Have tried all the tech support ideas, have reaffirmed my internet settings, have reinstalled IE and ME, can't download anything. Any ideas?

did you install any new software recently? Try it without your firewall and see what happens.

I fixed the "can't open certain websites, especially webmail & secure sites" after much on-line forum searching by doing the following. (IE 6.0)

I reregistered the dll by:
[Quit all unnecessary programs running]Click Start, and then click Run
Type in regsvr32 urlmon.dll then click OK
When you receive the pop-up "DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded" - click OK

After the register fix, you MUST go back and open Internet Explorer, under Tools, Internet Options, there is a Programs tab, and you must click "Reset Web Settings"

-------
that should do it,
but since I retried access to the problem sites Before I reset the web settings, just in case, I'll let you know I also ran the Register Server for all of these too (they may not have been necessary):
regsvr32 Shdocuw.dll
regsvr32 Msjava.dll
regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Mshtal.dll
regsvr32 Browseui.dll

some sites recommend the following -
regsvr32 Shell32.dll (if a new ver of Windows) or regsvr32 Shdoc401.dll if you've got an older version like me with Win98

It's a horrible problems - hope you all get it fixed
